Driving in my fathers 94’ convertible listening to Q107’s classic rock and roll on a Sunday, I am thankful for the music my father introduced me to as a child. Filtering my head with some of these powerful messages that these 1960’s and 1970’s artists wrote about during their times living in society and dealing with life.
One tune from that period is, now more than ever, embodied within my spirit as a human, sentient being and lover of creation. The classic Buffalo Springfield, “For What It’s Worth”, some may know it as “Stop Children What’s That Sound”, is this magical tune that bestows upon us as listeners with some much appreciated wisdom and knowledge. Listen to the lyrics and understand the message behind it during the period in which it was written. It’s a simple message: Stop, listen, what’s the sound, everyone look what’s going down.
On the 15th of May, 2021, more than 15 thousand people gathered at Queen’s Park in Toronto to lovingly support the World Wide Rally for Freedom. Protestors joined forces in various cities worldwide to protect our God-given birth rights and freedoms along with defend and liven the spirit of humanity. We are not the property of any state or construct, and we are not slaves to anyone’s cause or theories other than our own. We will not stand for tyrannical rules and systems that attempt to restrict our Freedoms of Speech, Movement, Choice, Assembly and Health.
I witnessed a gathering so powerful that day. The rally had a magnetic vibration and flowed with an abundance of energy and love. Not only in Toronto, but cities across the globe, people were standing up, voicing their opinion and concerns for the way this world is shifting and turning.It’s time to listen to Buffalo Springfield’s words, and “I think it’s time we stop, Children what’s that sound? Everybody LOOK what’s going down!”
A few friends thought maybe around 3,000 people would show up, but more than 15,000 souls participated and marched on this day in Toronto alone. They marched in solidarity with one another, standing up and fighting for what they believe is right, having the Freedom to choose what they want to do with their bodies and their life. Not only did they march for themselves, they marched for all of the Canadians and the rest of the world as a united front. The idea is simple, freedom. That’s exactly what the World Wide Freedom Rally promoted; that people of all faiths, religions, creeds could come together at the same moment to fight for one another. Together, we stood against our oppressors and the tyranny imposed upon all of our people.
As for Canadians, the writing is on the wall, if we choose to see and understand it. The health orders, by-laws, strict fines, business and school closures, mask mandates, social distancing, even the potential introduction of Bill C-10 from the Federal Government (which would limit and restrict Canadians Freedom of Expression), is not in our best interests. Anyone who were to defy Canada’s Public Health Orders, as mentioned from a statement released by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), “Those who defy Canada’s Public Health Orders and voice an opinion contrary to the official declarations, even when supported by scientific facts, as mentioned by CPSO in an official statement, would be labeled a dissenter and could face punishment, suspension and censorship.”
This method of censorship and tyranny is not unique to Canada. France and Germany, two developed European countries are facing tremendous governmental oppression, so much so that millions of people have taken to the streets to rise up and extend their voice of displeasure. The police have clashed with the people on more than one occasion, sometimes resulting in violence.
The reason I march is not only for Canadians and Canada, I march for everyone around the world. Greeks, Turks, Palestinians, Israelis, Taiwanese, Chinese, people of all ethnic religions and creeds. We are all living, breathing sentient beings, each with a purpose greater than that of accumulating wealth, power, and longer life. We are all fighting for the same cause, Freedom!
It begs the question, why are people fighting each other? We are not each others enemy! We all bleed the same colour, we are all human, we all have feelings, desires, wants, needs. Instead of looking across the street, or looking across the border feeling angry and infuriated with thy neighbour, it’s time to come together as a collective, join forces and see where the real problem lies. Ask yourself, who are the ones imposing these strict and obscene orders and by-laws limiting and restricting your natural born rights and freedoms? Who is telling you, you can line up at a major retail store for hours on end with strangers, but you’re not allowed to go see your family on holidays?
It’s time to stop and listen. Take a hard long look, have an open mind as to what is happening around us and to each other, not only in our country, but around the world. More people each and everyday are beginning to question the very essence and fabric of this society we are living in. Educate yourself, support your family and friends, begin to understand that we are in this together and not against each other.
